I just felt like posting Bex. He’s so part of ESRI that I can’t believe he hadn’t been on my blog yet.

Ah Bex the wonder dog. He was always my default icon for anything important in ArcView 3.2.
Now that takes me back!
If I remember my ESRI dev trivia correctly, wasn’t Bex Jeff Jackson’s dog? Also I heard that Jeff is no longer with ESRI (moved back east?). Can anyone confirm or provide more info?
Mike you are right about Bex being Jeff’s dog.
As far as I know he’s still at ESRI, but I haven’t been keeping up.
AFAIK, he’s still at ESRI, just not working on the west coast anymore…
Makes sense… No offense to anyone who calls it home, but Deadlands isn’t exactly my idea of a garden spot.
Ah, my old AV 3.x friend Bex. I also used him on the AV 3.x interface for any custom Avenue code that was important to me. James, Thanks for taking me back in time by remembering him.
Yes, Bex is my dog. His full name is Beckett, and believe it or not, he’ll turn 17 in a few weeks. He’s living happily in his home state of Maine once again and he’s looking forward to a true color rendition of himself in the next generation of ArcGIS software…
Wow Jeff, glad to hear Beckett is doing well.
It’s with a great deal of sadness that I regret to inform everyone of the passing of Bex a few days ago. In addition to being a famous “icon” in the GIS world, he was also a loyal dog and friend for a long time. Beckett will be greatly missed.
sorry to hear that Jeff.
Jeff,
My condolences to on Bex’s recent passing. He will forever be remembered in the annals of GIS history by a generation of professionals.
Jeff,
I am sorry to hear about Bex. He will be missed.
