I have problems in exporting data from Excel 2007 in a format that can be read by ArcMap 9.1. Any help?

after 4 service packs now for 9.2, the same ‘issues’ in even installing the software let alone all the other outstanding issues – isn’t it time the Trade Discriptions Act, Sales of Goods Act etc started to be rigourously applied to the likes of ESRI and Microsoft for that matter ? They owe us all a lot of compensation……….

You do bring up a great point. While line control is so much better, text control is still very lacking.

I can tell you at 9.2 there is almost no reason other than text to export the map, in most cases. We still will use our graphic artists for the maps they create now, but the days of having our GIS crew using copies of Illustrator are over.

The claim that users will no longer have to go to Illustrator to finish map is one I’ve heard before ofr previous version of ArcMap. I am very doubtful that v. 9.2 is going to provide all the tools and productivity that exporting to Illie for good cartography now provides. As it stands now you save more time by exporting to a desktop design package because that software is so much better for editing text and graphic and so much mor efficient…i.e. no waiting for the map to re-draw. I wouldn’t count on 9.2 to change that fact.

I can’t really say much about the improvements as I’m a beta tester and it is still a closed beta so I’m just reporting what is said Brian.

Still read between the lines and you’ll get me honest feeling about the pre-release of 9.2.

Brian, I can’t say specifically that they have fixed everything, but ESRI claims they have fixed over 600 “issues”. I think on the Desktop side things will be much better than at 9.1. I’ll have to wait and see how the server side looks, but they claim they are in much better shape too. The Desktop team hasn’t really added that much, many of these new features are geodatabase driven as opposed to ArcMap driven.

I really wish they would fix broken stuff before creating new features. i have sooo many open cases right now, i feel like they are ignoring them. ESRI starts a project but never finishes them it seems.
