The Dangermond/Lewis “Land Swap”

I’ll be honest, I really haven’t been following this at all. I actually got contacted by a couple of reporters for the “inside take” and I had to do a quick Google News search to see what the heck they were talking about. Growing up in Orange Country California, I only knew Redlands as gas stations and truck stops (last place to get cheap gas before getting to Big Bear). It is best to try and protect space while they still have it, no matter who lives next to it.

Only thing I glean from that article is that Jack needs to spend more time on his software than his guacamole ranch.
Guilt by association sucks. Best to stay away from crooks like Jerry Lewis: http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/politics/20060624-9999-1n24cozy.html
On the suggestion of many, I’ve updated the picture associated with this post.
In 2004, ESRI got at least $31.4 million for four federal projects, according to Taxpayers for Common Sense, including $14.4 million for the Commercial Joint Mapping Toolkit. In the 2005 defense spending bill the company got $24 million for various projects.
…BUSTED!!! When will people learn that with Jack it was never about geography bringing us together – it was about making money.
In all honestly, I’d say it’s all about the money for 99% of us. I ain’t doing this sh!t for free….or cheap.
Rudolph- good point! The federal government is obviously wasting precious taxpayer money on GIS software. What would the Fed ever use GIS for? Obvious pork!
And that CJMTK stuff! Clear pork! Common sense tells us that all this money is undoubtedly being wasted and serves no purpose because we all know that GIS doesn’t help get anything done.
If it were about money, Jack would have sold out during the dot-com bubble. Actions speak louder than blogs.
There would be no ESRI today without the support of the consulting unit and the federal contracts in the early days and today. It’s how the company was founded.
That being said, Lewis’s days are numbered and I do hope that there is clear daylight between him and Jack as he strolls into his cell next to Duke.
One thing to note. As a tax payer, answer this question: Would I rather know that the government is spending my tax contributions on a small, less than $1B GIS software company, or waste it away on a large system integrator that would spend $1B doing about the same amout of work?
