ArcGIS Explorer Build 900 Preview Video

ESRI has posted a preview video of ArcGIS Explorer build 900.  I’m looking forward to seeing it in person at the Dev Summit.

Personally, I like a variant of the theme from Sex in the City playing on software promo videos.

  2. Simon says:

YouTube is blocked by so many IT departments. Would be good if ESRI could use an embedded video player to showcase things like this. Sure its very pretty though.

  3. Murky says:

    Blocked here as well.

  4. This is all good and everything but I’m way more impressed with Google Earth 5. The bathemetry alone is truly astounding.

We know there’s a strong requirement to be able to view videos directly from ESRI.com and we are working on an in-house solution right now.

The good news is that we generally post a direct link to the video file (wmv) on the ESRI web page or blog so that way you can access it directly from ESRI.com. The direct link for for this video is available on the ArcGIS Explorer blog itself.

We know it’s not perfect but we appreciate your patience!
Lastly, if you have any ideas on video access, feel free to send them my way.

    Thanks,AL

I just wish they would update their world imagery first. It is sooooo far behind Google Earth and MS Virtual Earth.

  7. JW says:

ESRI doesn’t have the $$$$$$ to maintain a data center and keep that imagery up to date. I say they pick a side and write a very cool browser for Virtual Earth in exchange for MS keeping the data side up. Even MS is slow on data updates but it is better than nothing.

Completely agree. I just know that when I have used Explorer to overlay shape files on, it wasn’t anywhere near as impressive to the higher ups because the imagery is so out of date. I don’t mind using Google Earth but they will not spring for a paid version so I am constantly having to convert to KML.

Now, I am trying to get a Geoserver installation going so I can use the imagery they are used to and overlay my data. Been a learning curve for a self taught GIS person with no formal instruction.
