JSMag, the magazine for JavaScript developers

OK, so maybe you aren’t a Microsoft MVP for .NET or maybe you think Java is an island of Indonesia (we are all Geographers of course) .  But darn it, you know how to work with the Google Maps API or you dream about jQuery.  Does that mean you don’t get a “professional” magazine of your own?  Well wonder no longer, say hello to JSMag. Their mission?

“JSMag aims to brings you quality JavaScript content to educate, movitate [sic] and inspire you in your work with JavaScript.”

Issues are PDF only and cost $4.99 each.  You can view a sample from the first issue here.  Exciting topics from this months issue:

  • Debugging JavaScript without alert()
  • Introduction to ExtJS
  • Community News
  • Unit testing with YUI
  • What’s new in jQuery 1.3
  • Functional Programming in JavaScript

Mark Twain used to end up every day on his porch reading JSMag and enjoying a stogie.

Awesome. Thanks for the heads up.

    Great news, thanks.

  3. Thanks *so much* for the Mark Twain photo. That is fantastic! :)

We’ve got some interest from some people directly at MS who are planning to contribute some pieces. And we’ve possibly got a piece on using JavaScript with the MS mapping system.

    Thanks again :)

I have to admit at first I was thinking, “Five dollars for a PDF of information that I can get on the internet for free?” But reading the sample section won me over. While I still feel that i could have tracked down all of this info after spending hours on the net, after reading the first article on functional programming alone proved to be worth my hard-earned cash.

I’m disappointed however, that they don’t offer any type of a discount for purchasing a year-long subscription. 60 bucks annually for a PDF-only version seems a little steep to me. Even though the content looks great in the first issue, I’ll wait till some coupon codes surface before I subscribe.

btw it’s worth mentioning that they provide all the code snippets along w/ a PDF when your purchase the issue.

    • Sorry I’m a bit late to reply, but I wanted to thank you for your support and address a couple points.

      1. Yes, the code is supplied. We need to post that somewhere on the site.

      2. Pricing. I understand the price may be a bit steep for some, and we may offer discounts in the future. If and when that change is made, we would extend any existing subscriptions by some commensurate amount.

Bear in mind that our focus is not collecting eyeballs to sell to advertisers, with some content thrown in. The focus is on providing monthly useful content, and hopefully content that is not readily available elsewhere.

Again, thank you for your post and support. If anyone had any questions, I can be reached at editor@jsmag.com.
