Adobe’s Views on HTML 5

As you can imagine, Adobe John Dowdell responded to the HTML 5 “flash killer” talk in a way only Adobe could.

It’s hard for Adobe to have an official opinion on whatever this consortium of minority browser vendors chooses to do… seeing what the final agreement turns out to be, and how it is eventually manifested in the world, both are prerequisites for practical tool-making.

I suppose when Microsoft becomes the minority browser to WebKit/Firefox then things might change?  Guess we’ll see next year when it happens.  So if my previous post didn’t excite you, maybe John’s will.

Actually, I’ve been excited since I watched the presentation of Wave.

    What, me worry?

Note to self, folks…next time you hear a marketeer faffing around like that, you can be very, very sure the fear of death is stalking their dreams at night.

no visible concern = big panic inside

  3. John Dowdell says:

Now, James! if I said you responded here “in a way that only you could”, then that would make you feel funny, wouldn’t it…!? ;-)

(iow, if you’ve got a real idea I’d like to hear it, but if you just wish to characterize other ideas, and particularly their speakers, then that’s not as useful.)

PS: I may not know why “Emile Zola” hides, but I liked that comment about Mothra and the Twins. ;-)

  4. yodel says:

Anything that speeds up the death of flash is a good thing!!

    Mr. Dowdell, Sir:

I believe Mr. Fee mentioned the response was couched “in a way that only Adobe could”

When you speak for Adobe, and apparently you do, then you should be prepared to accept critical notes on behalf of Adobe…since you are, so to speak, a house organ.

Mr. Fee’s comment was not an ‘ad hominem’ comment, but a response to what strongly resembles a prepared statement. If the quote is not a prepared statement but instead your language alone, you should be commended for your ability to speak with a mouthful of lint.

[note - this last comment is a good-natured ad hominem comment. ;^) It's not personal, just an observation on your apparent ability to generate smoke while exhbiting no visible means of combustion]
