Enough with the Mashups already!

It seems like a day doesn’t go by where some company puts out some press release about some edge case implementation of their mapping api. I couldn’t care less guys.

Unless the implementation is built into how we as consumers use information (type it into my browser search bar, type it into my smartphone) there isn’t any way I’ll actually use it. Plus as a developer, you should be offering me the feed up so I can implement it in my own stack, not locking it up behind some weird specialized mashup UI.

Wonder what tomorrow’s secret mashup ingredient will be…

Chairman Kaga is so much better than his supposed nephew. Long Live the Chairman!!

I completely agree. Kaga + “unique wardrobe” really isn’t something that can be replaced by the Food Network. Also once you have seen Kaga’s “Nephew” in other acting roles (e.g. Stargate Atlantis) then the illusion is well and truly over.

Couldn’t agree more. We get it. You can mash up data. Unless it’s data that I want to use, or you’ve given it to me in such a way as I can use it with other data, than what do I care?
I don’t want to learn a different API for every base service. If you’re alright letting me use your data in a mashup, don’t make me use a specialized API, isn’t that why we have the OGC?
I understand that ESRI, Google, and Microsoft all want to rule the world… but doing so by creating custom API’s doesn’t seem like a good way to do it.

If we only had a real OpenLayers open source project that did just that without the hidden pyramid scheme.

    • Ando says:

@Chris.go – Real OpenLayers open source project and hidden pyramid schemes? Is there an evil lair I don’t know about?

    • No Time To Lose says:

Yes, please elaborate on the pyramid scheme that is open layers? Or is this a clever jab at Tile Caching?

i wish I could go back in time and remove the person from this earth who came up with the word ‘mashup’
