Well the day is finally here. ESRI and 3Dconnexion have announced support for the SpaceNavigator in ArcGIS. I don’t have my SpaceNavigator SE with me or I’d give it a shot right now. This is great news for ESRI ArcScene and ArcGlobe users who currently have to navigate the 3D environment with a 2D mouse.
Haven’t had a chance to try it out yet, but those with the SpaceNavigator and ArcMap 9.2 might want to take a look at the work Jiro Shirota has done. Looks like 3Dconnexion would like to get their product working with ArcGIS. An update from 3Dconnexion? our devices do not work today with ArcGIS or other ESRI products. A reader named Mike writes in the 3DConnexion post to say that the SpaceNavigator does not work with ArcGIS. I have not been able to get the SpaceNavigator to work in any ArcGIS Software (ArcScene, ArcGlobe) Bummer, but I guess it saves us from buying one.
