A minor changes to ArcGIS Online is happening today.
On May 23, 2007, the services on ArcGIS Online will be organized into a basic folder structure. This change will help make ArcGIS Online services easier to locate when you add them to your maps and globes. You will need to update the service reference information in any existing maps, globes, and Web applications that use the affected services.
Not all services will be removed from the root (and as of this post they haven’t removed any yet, just duplicated them into the new folders). Of course this means you’ll have to update your links to the new files and ESRI has posted instructions (strangely as a news item and not a KB or technical article) on the ArcGIS Online site about how to do this.
Well the results are in and posted over at the ESRI Support Blog.
we’re going to focus on the Search Results (because you really really want improvement there), and RSS Feeds. Why RSS Feeds? Because they’re relatively straightforward to implement, and it makes good sense to have them: if we (as a Community) are going to be making improvements to various Support Center content, RSS feeds can help everyone become aware of that improved content.

Many will remember almost a year ago, ESRI was pointing out that Realtor.com used ArcWeb Services and a customized ArcWeb Explorer client for their mapping. Well no more, ArcWeb is out and Virtual Earth is in. I’ve noted on this blog a couple times while search for a new house that the Realtor.com mapping site was way too slow to use. Not sure if this was ESRI’s fault or Realtor.com’s, but in the end, they abandoned ArcWeb and went to Live Maps.
So I guess that leaves Nature Valley as the “premiere” ArcWeb site?
geoLibro spots mention of ArcSDE 9.2 support for PostgreSQL 8.2.
Probably just a typo as ArcSDE support for PostgreSQL support is to be available at the ArcGIS 9.3 release.
Well it finally happened. Adobe has killed Freehand. Everyone is expected to migrate to Illustrator (for a “small” $199 fee). Interesting enough Adobe will still sell Freehand, making things very confusing.
I did some of my first cartography on Freehand many years ago, but I haven’t used it since about version 7.
So I see Paul Ramsey is excited about SQL Server 2008 and he links to Directions Magazine (where apparently they talk about SQL Server 2008). I click on the link “excited” to hear what they have to say and I’m faced with a freaking podcast. Like I’m going to download a podcast to get my news. sigh
I’m officially never posting another link to a podcast, that ship has sailed. Stop hiding behind podcasts (that isn’t directed at Directions per say, more of a general blast) and pull out the keyboard. I don’t need to hear pundents, I’d rather read them.

The word via PlanetGS is that Yahoo! has a new update to their mapping tool. Dan Catt has probably the best overview I’ve seen so far. I used to use Yahoo! Maps religiously, but since Google Maps has come out, I just don’t really bother anymore (other than to georeference photos in Flickr). I switch between GMap and Virtual Earth depending on where I’m at (and I just love the Bird’s Eye view). I will say though these Yahoo! maps look great.

GeoMullah has been coordinating the Blogger Meetup for the UC. Last year it got hurt by the .NET SIG, but this year it shouldn’t be a problem. Any GIS blogger who will be at the UC should stop by. Last year Google was there handing out swag, so you’ll probably not want to miss out.
I’m not going to FOSS4G 2007 (nor any other conference this summer), but I’m keeping my eye out for interesting talks. This one by Brian Timoney looks like it will be a presentation not to miss.
